DESCRIPTION:Cops and K9s\n\n \n\nFor our August Economic Development Lunch\, we are pleased to welcome the Beverly Hills Police Department K9 Unit and attendees will have an opportunity to interact with one of the K9s.  \n\n\n\nSince its start in 1981\, the Beverly Hills Police Department K9 Unit has acquired dozens of police K9s trained in handler protection\, field and article searches\, explosives detection\, narcotics detection\, electronics detection\, and apprehension.  The canines average a 7-10 year career\, efficiently serving the community and safeguarding the lives of Beverly Hills residents.  In recognition of the canines' selfless acts\, hard work\, dedication and service to the department\, and in an effort to provide the canines with a well-deserved retirement\, the BHPD K9 Foundation was created.  Our mission is to maintain indefinite care and maintenance of police canines retired from general service\, maintain indefinite care and maintenance of retired police canines injured in the line of duty\, and provide continued support and maintenance of the K9 Unit and its operations.  The canines deserve a life worthy of the heroes they truly are.
