SUMMARY:Webinar: Understanding AB 5 and Its Implications for Your Business
DESCRIPTION:**Please note\, this webinar will take place using the Zoom. Please be sure to have Zoom downloaded on your computer or mobile device prior to the meeting.**\n\n\n\nThe Chamber is hosting a webinar in partnership with the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at El Camino College. We welcome Damien Delaney\, Partner\, Akerman LLP who will discuss AB 5.\n\n\n\nCalifornia Assembly Bill 5 (AB5)\, popularly known as the "gig worker bill\," is a piece of legislation signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom in September 2019. It went into effect on Jan. 1\, 2020\, and requires companies that hire independent contractors to reclassify them as employees\, with a few exceptions.\n\n\n\nIn the 2018 Dynamex case\, the California Supreme Court ruled that companies must use a three-pronged test (known as the ABC test) in determining whether to classify workers as employees or independent contractors. This test assumes that workers are employees unless the company that hires them can prove the following three things.\n\n\n\nRead more about Mr. Delaney here.
